A crash partially airtight the A14 near Ipswich today (March 26). The incident led to a total closure eastbound between Junction 53 and Junction 54, and Suffolk Police were on the scene.

Junction 53 is the A1156 Bury Route turn-off for the Whitehouse Interchange, while Junction 54 is the Sproughton Road plough-off for Sproughton. The road was closed, along with the entry and exit slip roads, for a number of hours. Withal, the incident has now been cleared.

The incident was reported on the official National Highways: Eastward Twitter business relationship in a 5.06am post this morn. The post read: "The #A14 in #Suffolk is closed eastbound between J53 and J54 due to a collision. @SuffolkPolice are on scene. Please accept care on approach. Updates to follow."

Traffic data website Inrix besides reported on the crash, previously saying: "A14 eastbound closed, queuing traffic due to accident from J53 A1156 Bury Road (Whitehouse Interchange) to J54 Sproughton Road (Sproughton). The road has been closed since around 5am Saturday morning."

Inrix has issued a last update on the A14 incident, proverb the sideslip roads have now reopened. Information technology says:

Sideslip roads re-opened, recovery work completed on A14 eastbound at J54 Sproughton Road (Sproughton). The vehicle has been recovered.

Traffic and travel service Inrix says there is queuing traffic as a result of the accident. It says:

Slip roads airtight and queueing traffic due to accident on A14 eastbound at J54 Sproughton Road (Sproughton). The main A14 is now open merely the slip roads coming off and getting on remain closed.

Main carriageway reopen, exit and entry sideslip roads remain closed

Hither are the diversion details...

  • Exit the A14 at J52 Claydon and take the 4th exit onto the B1113.
  • Continue on the B1113 through Bramford and Sproughton to the roundabout with the A1071.
  • At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A1071 and continue to the junction with the A1214.
  • At the junction plough right and follow the A1214 to re-join the eastbound carriageway at J55 Copdock Mill.
